Insomnia is a sleeping disorder that is characterized by persistent difficulty in falling asleep.
Although there are several different degrees of insomnia, there are three types of insomnia that have been clearly identified - transient, acute and chronic.

Transient insomnia - lasts from days to weeks and it can be caused by another disorder, changes in the sleep environment, the timing of sleep, or by stress.  It can cause sleepiness and impaired judgment and is similar to those of sleep deprivation.  If this form of insomnia continues to occur from time to time, the insomnia is classified as intermittent.

Acute insomnia - is the inability to consistently sleep well for a period of between three weeks to six months.

Chronic insomnia - lasts from months to years. It can be caused by another disorder, or it can be a primary disorder.  Its effects can vary and might include sleepiness, muscular fatigue, and/or mental fatigue.  Unusually, people with chronic insomnia often show increased alertness.

Some factors leading to insomnia include physical changes during menopause, an overactive mind or physical pain.  To cure insomnia, you must find the underlying cause.  Insomnia can be experienced after the loss of a loved one, even years after the event, if they have not gone through the grieving process. Overall, symptoms and the degree of severity affect everyone differently, depending on their mental health, physical condition, and their personality and attitude.

Without a good nights sleep, life takes on a raw edge - a feeling that millions have experienced all too well. Chiropractic, in combination with complementary and alternative therapies, has proven effective in diagnosing sleep disorders and delivering successful insomnia treatment.  Mosman Chiropractor Clare Fulton and her trained team can offer the promise of a better night's sleep.

Clare has had great success with insomnia treatment.  Mosman residents who have difficulty sleeping now have a chiropractor with years of experience literally at their doorstep.

Clare said that not many people would consider visiting a Chiropractor for sleep issues but the holistic approach taken to treatment of patients covers a lot more than back pain.

Clare tells us that many patients do not tell their clinicians that they suffer from sleep disorders, but it is very common for patients to advise her that they sleep much better after being treated for a variety of conditions not usually associated with sleep deprivation.

“Sleep disorders are prevalent and often disabling, but most are diagnosable and effectively treatable using chiropractic applications," says Clare.  "Sleep is one of the most important functions of the brain. The ability of the nervous system to regulate sensory input is considered a prerequisite to sleep. Specific areas of the brain change in their function to prevent transmission of sensory information that might keep us awake”.  Clare added that “Patients suffering from pain or other sensory conditions that contribute to a continual activation of the brain may have difficulty sleeping."

If you are suffering from any sort of sleep issues give Clare a call at her Mosman Centre for an appointment to get you back on your way to the good night sleep you deserve.
